As a manufactured regenerated cellulose fibre, Viscose is neither truly natural (like cotton, wool or silk) nor truly synthetic (like nylon or polyester) - it falls somewhere in between. The raw material for viscose is cellulose, derived mainly from wood pulp (trees are 50% cellulose), which is broken down either mechanically or chemically and reformed into fibres. It's a little weaker in strength than cotton, and thus is often used to make delicate, lighter clothing which drapes & falls beautifully.
